ODI3: India barely wins this one

August 24, 2008 by Kuldip

Zaheer Khan claims 3 wicketsWatching Zaheer Khan bowling in the 3rd ODI, I felt as if he started from where he had left  in 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka. He claimed 3 for just 23, leading India to 33 run victory over Sri Lanka.

I know MS Dhoni will get all the credit for this victory for scoring needed 76 runs. But I would like to defer with all those. But for Zaheer, it would have been difficult to bring down the Sri Lankan innings. He has been the most successful Indian bowler in the series thus far.

In a way, he was the difference maker in this One Day. He was able to control the home team which was at 94 for 7 at one point.

94 for 7 is no big deal in this series. India and Sri Lanka both of them had been in this situation during the first two one dayers. Sri Lankan captain, Jayawardene, along with Thushara tried carrying the innings. He scored 94 and had almost rescued the side. But he couldn't go farther enough to win the ODI.

Earlier India started on a sloppy note. The openers scored 39 before going back to pavilion. Indian captain MS Dhoni, scored 76 with eight FOURs to take India to 237 for 9.

India leads the series 2-1.

A See-Saw-See series

August 10, 2008 by Kuldip

India 249 and 161 for 5 (Dravid 46*, Mendis 2-39, Prasad 2-46) lead Sri Lanka 396 (Sangakkara 144, Prasanna 49, Prasad 36) by 14 runs

2000 Test series between India and Sri Lanka has been a see-saw(-see) series.  In the third and final Test, Sri Lanka is in control of the Test on third day. Unless a miracle happens, Sri Lanka is poised to win the Test and with that the series.

If we look back, the first Test was completely dominated by the home team. India was forced to follow-on with tremendous batting prowess displayed by the home team. India lost with a very poor performance, loosing by an innings and 223 runs. India's batsmen lacked confidence and the Sri Lankan Spinners were on the top of their performance.

Second Test was not dominated by either side at anytime, though the visitors had a little edge. Harbhajan claimed 10 wickets to spin India to a victory by 170 runs. Again, the Indian batsmen showed no sign of life except for Sehwag who was declared man of the match for his double century in the first innings.

The third Test is in progress with a clear dominance by the home team. Like the first two Tests, Indian batsmen have struggled in this Test too and so have the bowlers. This Test and the Series is clearly a Sri Lankan win.
