TV will be Super Umpire in Cricket

June 16, 2008 by Kuldip

Boston Celtics would have been NBA-2008 Champions if they had an option to appeal Kobe Brayant's big steal during the final minutes in 4th quarter. It was a controversial steal: "Was is it a steal or a foul".

Well, now in Cricket that would be possible. India-Sri Lanka will trail a empire review system, where a player will be able to question an umpire's decision. When decision is challenged, a TV umpire will replay the game and review it over TV. BCCI has agreed to the trial decision.

Good news is that under the review process, only three unsuccessful challenges will be allowed in an innings. An unsuccessful challenge will be the one where a player challenges a decision, TV umpire reviews it, and the decision stays.

Imagine a system where there is no limit on challenging decisions. In that case, the players would keep on challenging endlessly. Hey, who wants to die?
