South Africa won a first Test series in Australia with a nine-wicket
triumph at the MCG. South Africa has become the first team in 16 years to beat the
Aussies on home soil.
The Indian - England ODI series had started getting interested with each ODI being played. If you can recollect, the first ODI was very one sided. The second got interested with India struggling at 3/29 and Yuvi managed to rescue India and win. The third, the fourth and the fifth got even more balanced to the extent that England was expected to win at least one or more of the last three ODIs.
And then the hell break apart. With terrorist attacks in Bombay(Mumbai), England decided to cut short the series and call back their players. Which is obvious considering the security aspects of the English players - Security must always come first.
"The Test series will go ahead, and there is no problem with that,"
Modi sais. "We are sure the first Test will go ahead as
scheduled in Ahmedabad (from December 14). But there is a problem over
hosting the second Test in (troubled) Mumbai (from December 19). The ECB wants the
Test to be shifted to southern India, we are exploring all options."
It will interesting to watch the series, Australia having an upper hand. Australia has won their last two Test series, one again India, where as India has lost both the encounters in the recent past - against Australia and Sri Lanka. But you never know, Indians are always tigers on their own grounds.
Sri Lanka 85 for 2 (Warnapura 50*, Ishant 1-21) v India
India - Sri Lanka Test series started with a rain spoiled first day.
Highlights of the day wer Malinda Warnapura's brisk unbeaten 50 off 74 balls. Indian pacers were able to trouble Malinda in the initial overs but he survived the attack and managed to stay undefeated after watching Michael Vandort and Kumar Sangakkara depart early.
Heavy overnight rain, sporadic drizzles during the day and the
resultant wet outfield had ruled out any play in the first two sessions.
Saching Tendulkar is still nursing his groin injury. He will be missing the third cricket test again South Africa to be played at Kanpur in India.
"Sachin Tendulkar will be unavailable for
selection for the third Test match due to his right groin injury. Sachin's
recovery is making good progress but he has not recovered sufficiently to be
available for the third Test," Shah said in a statement.
This will be a big blow to India trailing by 1-0 to South Africa
